Ancillary Equipment, Mezzanine Floors Pallet Gate

Up and over gates

In order to allow pallets to be loaded on to and unloaded off mezzanine floors, pallet gates are installed which allow this operation while maintaining the mezzanine edge protection for the operators.

Sliding gates

Like the up and over gates - sliding gates also allow pallets to be placed on to and taken off the mezzanine.  Sliding gates are installed where there is limited headroom.

STAIRCASES

The quantity required, location and design of all staircases is governed by Building Regulations.  Staircase design guidelines can be found in Approved Document K and Document M (Ambulant disabled staircase) while means of escape is covered in Approved Document B2.  Depending on the works being carried out Building Regulations may also require that a lift be provided, however during the design process it is often found by installing a staircase to the Approved Document M and implementing a suitable and robust “access statement” it may not be required.  We would be pleased to offer further advice and information on this matter, if requested.

HANDRAIL & KICKER PLATES

Handrails are installed to all the open edges of the mezzanine floor.  As standard there are two horizontal rails supported by vertical posts every 1500mm. Weldmesh is commonly installed between the horizontal rails for added protection against falling parts, particularly when pallets are stored against the floor edge.

Wherever handrail is installed, 100mm high kicker plates are also installed – these eliminate small parts rolling over the edge of the mezzanine floors, falling on to the floor below.

DECORATIVE BALUSTRADE

Handrails need not be industrial galvanised or painted posts with circular hollow sections here at Teepee we can provide decorative balustrades manufactured from stainless steel or wood with part or full glass infills or even polished steel if that’s what you require.

FIRE RATING

Building Regulations stipulate if fire rating is required to the underside of a mezzanine or not, generally if it is required the rating must comply giving 60 minutes protection. There are two main methods of fire rating a mezzanine 1.

Fire rating example, Mezzanine FloorsInstall sprinklers, this could be expensive if there are no sprinklers already in the building or there is insufficient capacity within the existing system, or 2.

Install fire rated materials to the underside of the mezzanine, namely suspended ceiling tiles, column casings, perimeter bulk head/facias and possibly cavity barriers within the ceiling void.
