Steel mezzanine floors for flooring in warehouses and other industrial applications

Mezzanine floors are frequently erected in industrial business premises such as warehousing, distribution or manufacturing but are also widely used in shops or offices where high roof/ceilings allow the unused vertical space to be utilised.  The word mezzanine comes from Italian mezzano “middle”

Mezzanine floor systems are semi-permanent structures most commonly installed within buildings, above the original ground floor level.  A mezzanine system can be a single floor level or if the height permits – multiple floor levels.  The structures are usually free standing and can easily be dismantled and relocated.

Although each mezzanine structure is a bespoke design to suit the application there are 3 main components – 1. vertical steel support columns, these effectively “hold up” the mezzanine and can be spaced apart to suit the site requirements - dependant on floor slab capabilities and mezzanine floor usage, 2. horizontal main structural beams and secondary beams, these span on top or between the upright columns and form the support for the floor level and 3. the floor itself, typically this is a wooden material but can also be solid or open grid steel or aluminium.
